27/9/25 - It's Show Time

A couple of years ago, we chose to go and visit the Malvern Autumn Show.  It's a very well known show and has all sorts of exhibits and attractions ranging from vintage farm machinery, demos, exotic animal tents, dog agility, bulb growers, food stalls and crafters.  But the big attraction for us has to be the produce exhibits.  They are split over several tents, and naturally, the one everybody makes the initial b-line for is the giant veg tent.  This year, we took the opportunity to go again, and we loved it!

Pumpkins

There has been a bit of media surrounding one pumpkin in particular this year, which was grown on the allotment, and the grower had put out an appeal for assistance to get it from the allotment to the showground.  Various people seemed to have stepped up and it arrived.  Between all the entries, they put on a great collective display.

Roots

On another table, we saw various veg exhibits, crowned off with parsnips, which had been extremely carefully excavated from wherever they were grown.  The tap roots on them must have gone on for nearly 20 feet easily.

Watermelon

Following on from my own success of watermelon growing this year, it was great to see some other examples that had been grown in the UK.  One of them even took the UK record.

Uglies

Next we come to some ugly veg.  These were not there for their appearance, that was for certain.  Purely there to take the title of heaviest in their category.  Which was a good job.  Not even the tomatoes looked particularly appetising!

Dry your eyes

Onions are always impressive, well at least to me anyway.  This year, I have grown some of my largest onions, but nothing compared to these bad boys!

Flowers and succulents

In another area of the showground, we spent some time looking around some flower displays.  I picked out some of my most favourite displays including some fantastic gladioli.

So there you go.  Lots of walking around and lots of different bulbs and other bits and bobs purchased.  Definitely want to go again next year!
