2/1/25 - Polytunnel Prep
With a bonus day off work, and with a stunningly clear and sunny sky for a change, it was a good chance to do a few more jobs on the plot this morning. The site that greeted me was brilliant and in huge contrast to what we have endured over the last week or so.
First job of the morning was to change the front door of the tunnel so that it opens outwards. After putting the tunnel up, it quickly became apparent that it would provide better space inside, rather than having to keep some room clear for the door to open. Then, while the electric screwdriver was out, I made the second suspended shelf to hang from the crop bar. This gives us a total of 12 foot of shelf space for seedlings and plants in the early part of the year, where hopefully, they will have no issues with ants or slugs 🤣. I also mentioned previously that I had some spare brassica young plants left outside, so to try and give them a chance, I've brought them inside.
Finally for this shift, I moved the quad grows from the hooped tunnel into their positions in the polytunnel. I've ordered another two sets too so will have those ones down the right side. This time of year I can get plenty of prep done ready the for next growing season. Even if the quad grows won't be needed until April or even May time, there's nothing wrong with getting them into place now.
Though I have already made initial plans of what to do with the hooped tunnel, I'm now thinking that I may tweak the plan in favour of growing direct in the ground in the tunnel. More on that as the idea develops!
Until next time, happy growing!
